Populism, anti-populism, collective identification, discourse theory, social movements

About me

I research left wing populist social movements, parties and leaderships, their transitions to power, the ways they construct collective identities and the anti-populist forces that oppose them. Ι am also interested in the subversive function of post-truth narratives, especially with regards to the contemporary Alt-Right, and the ways it rejects experts’ authority, political correctness, environmental justice and the left. I specialise in discourse analysis, visual material and web content analysis, in-depth interviews and participatory methods.

My book is entitled Populism in Power: Discourse and Performativity in SYRIZA and Donald Trump.

I am currently Fellow in Political Polarisation at the Democracy Institute of the Central European University. In the past I researched and taught at the University of Cyprus, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Cyprus University of Technology. I obtained my PhD in December 2021 from the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences, at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Florence, Italy, my MA from Goldsmith's College, University of London and BA the University of Essex.

I am co-convening the Populist Specialist Group (PSA).
